Together, we share a rich history.

Our story, dates back to 1925.

We are a Minority Bank and proud to be part of a small community within the banking industry, accounting for about 2 percent of all financial institutions and total industry assets. Despite their small numbers, minority banks play an important role in serving the financial needs of historically underserved communities, such as African-Americans, and growing populations of minorities, such as Hispanic-Americans and Asian-Americans.

Proud to be  designated as an MDI

We are proud to be designated as a Minority Depository Institution (MDI) operating under the Minority Deposit Institutions Program. The designation includes the Bank in a select group of minority banks which are specifically able to meet credit needs and provide financial services, often to underserved populations and markets, while providing strength and vitality to the communities they serve, which provides stability to the U.S. economy.

A Culture of Fairness

We help people get greater access to life’s necessities than their constrained credit would otherwise allow. Through tailored fairness we seek to provide the best combination of terms on our financial products to meet the needs of all stakeholders. We also help people better manage their financial resources through financial literacy education.

Pan American Bank and Finance and Thrift have joined forces, beginning a new era that will provide existing and prospective customers with expanded service offerings and greater geographic reach with branches in Central and Southern California.

Both banks have long histories of serving under-represented and under-served consumers and small businesses. Pan American Bank, co-founded by Romana Acosta Bañuelos, the first Latina Treasurer of the United States, was established in 1964. Finance and Thrift, founded by a group of ranchers and farmers to make small loans to their workers, was established in 1925.

Together, today’s Pan American Bank is focused on transforming and empowering the community, and is nationally recognized as a leading community bank, based on its advocacy-based style of banking.

Pan American Bank maintains a fully-bilingual staff (English/Spanish) ready to meet the needs of its customers, and is active in the community through its financial literacy education program to local elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as through non-profits and faith-based organizations.
